University Admission in Mexico

Mexico is a North American country and one of the largest and most populous countries in the region. In recent decades, Mexico has evolved as a regional power with unprecedented economic and cultural development. This thirteenth largest economy of the world has 86 companies in the Forbes Global 2000 list. It is also one of the biggest exporter and importer to US and Canada. The efficient education system of the country is one of the main reasons for Mexico’s booming economy. The higher education system, particularly the university system, closely follows the US education model. Every year, the Government of Mexico spends billions of dollars on education budget of the country. The Secretariat of Public Education is responsible for all the study programs in Mexico. There are dozens of prestigious universities in the country, which are globally recognized for providing high quality education. However, attaining admission in the preeminent universities of Mexico is not a child's play, as students have to undergo the strict admission procedure and qualify all the eligibility requirements to bag a seat. Eligibility Criteria
 
Undergraduate Studies
  • To get admission in undergraduate courses in Mexico, students are required to have minimum high school Grade Point Average (GPA). Most of the universities in Mexico accept cumulative 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students interested in undergraduate studies should have high school graduation.
 
Master’s Degree
Students who are interested in Master’s program in Mexico must have a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent degree.
 
PhD Studies
Students interested in Doctoral program in a Mexican university must have a Master’s degree or relevant diploma.
 
Documents Required
  • University application form completely filled with all relevant information.
  • Non Refundable application fees.
  • Evidence of sufficient financial resources to fund the studies.
  • A valid passport.
  • Complete details of educational qualifications including course subjects and grades.
  • Official transcripts from each institution attended after secondary school with necessary details of the subjects, credits involved and other details like correspondence courses, diplomas etc.
  • Candidates need to submit their IELTS/ TOEFL scores as a proof of their English proficiency.
 
Admission Procedure
  • Applicants can download application form of the universities from their respective websites. Candidates need to submit official academic transcripts for the past 3 years of study, two letters of recommendation, copy of the passport, two ID sized photographs and receipt of fee payment along with your application form.
  • Students applying for study programs in Mexico have to give online entrance exam which will be scheduled before the deadline. Non-European students have to give a personal interview with a delegate of the university.
  • Upon clearing the entrance exam, students are required to take the next step of attaining the student visa. While candidates from certain countries do not require a visa, others need to go fulfill certain requirements to attain a visa.
  • Foreign students should have medical insurance to get their student visa for Mexico.
  • International students applying for Mexican universities have to get their high school studies validated from the Mexican embassies. Students are required to carry this document during the enrollment process.
  • For admission in Mexican universities, students have to personally appear in the admission office of the university at the time of admission with the following documents: passport, 2 ID sized photographs, notification of candidate’s acceptance of admission and proof high school studies validation.
 
Tuition Fees
Tuition fees at public universities in Mexico for the Bachelor degrees can be anywhere between $378 and $818 per year. For private universities this figure is quite high and can go anywhere between $1,636 and $16,353 per year.
